Industry Career Day and Job Fair on Thursday March 25th

Industry Career Day and Job Fair will be held on Thursday March 25 from 9AM to 2PM at the Student Rec Center. Students should come prepared, dressed in professional attire and with resumes in hand. Around fifty employers, hiring in a wide variety of disciplines will be on hand. Door prizes, including a notebook computer will be given away. More information about the event can be found in this month's edition of the Tech Times. All students are encouraged to attend.
SkillsUSA Computer Maintenance State Competition Results

SkillsUSA Computer Maintenance Club members did an outstanding job in the State Competitions in San Antonio this past week, bringing home a total of 15 medals. The Computer Maintenance club winners include:

Quiz Bowl (Silver Medalists) - Chris Coffey, Thomas Flaherty, Johnathan Fowler, Matthew Gaskill, Marylynn Mothershed, Alan-Michael Martinez, Lee Clendennen

Customer Service (Silver Medal) - Chris Coffey

Home Depot Scholarships

Home Depot has an extensive scholarship program for students, particularly those enrolled in trade programs. The deadline for the current application process is April 30th. Students enrolled in the Home Technology Program should be particularly interested.

TSTC Alumni Association is having an official meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 16,  at 5:08 p.m. in John B. Connally Technology Center room 147.  New changes are coming to the Alumni Association ... come and be apart of it!

The top three finishers in the SkillsUSA Computer Maintenance Campus Runoff are:

  • 1st - Thomas Flaherty
  • 2nd - Mark Eslick
  • 3rd - Matthew Gaskill

These contestants will be advancing to the State SkillsUSA competiton in San Antonio

Update on SkillsUSA Computer Maintenance contest

Those who did NOT compete in the competition on Wednesday need to meet at 11:30 Today in Room 118 to complete the first part of the competition.

The last two parts of the competition are scheduled to be held at  1PM on Friday. This will include a two-part written test and a second hands-on competition.

The last hands-on competition will be limited to the top 10 finishers of the first two2 parts.

Anyone having conflicts with this schedule needs to see me to try to reschedule.

Attention: SkillsUSA contestants for Computer Maintenance Contest

The competition for the SkillsUSA computer maintenance contest will begin on Wednesday Feb. 3rd at 11:30AM in room 118. The competition will consist of two hands-on contests and a two-part written test (computer-based). Due to the number of contestants, we will be dividing into two groups. I hope to complete the written tests and one of the hands-on tests on Wednesday and Thursday, and on Friday, the top ten contestants will advance to a final hands-on round to determine the winners. The top three finishers will advance to the State Competition in San Antonio.

Anyone having time conflicts with this schedule will need to get with me to make alternate arrangements.

TSTC Alumni Meeting

TSTC Alumni Meeting

The TSTC Alumni Association will hold an informal meeting from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, in the Student Services Center's Texas Room. A light dinner will be served.

 

All TSTC Alum are encouraged to attend to find out about proposed ideas for the organization, share your thoughts and find out what you can do to help. You WILL NOT be obligated to join the association by attending the meeting. Please be sure to invite other alumni who are not on campus.

Home Technology Classes in the Spring Semester

CMT students who are in their second year of their degree, who are interested in completing the Home Technology certificate should be aware that the advanced HTI classes are only available in the Spring semester. Those wishing to complete the dual-major should be advised, and register for the HTI classes in the Spring 2010 semester. Registration for returning students begins on Monday November 16th.

You Star Wars fans should check this out. It is old school, but still pretty amazing. Its the entire 4th movie (a New Hope) done as animated ASCII art through a telnet session. If the link below doesn't work, follow these easy steps:
